Sue Son

Sue Son loses friend The violinist who stormed into the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent has told how she fell out with her best friend after Simon Cowell told her to go solo.

Sue Son admitted: ‘I got some great compliments from the judges. But at the end of the day I lost my best friend.’

Sue started her audition for last night’s episode of the ITV show alongside Janine Khalil as part of their classical music act Addicted.

But the pair were buzzed off stage at the Birmingham audition. Then in dramatic scenes the judges invited Sue, 23, back to try again on her own.

Going solo: Sue Son, right, auditions for the show

Her second appearance came four days later at a London audition, and Sue’s version of Vanessa Mae’s Storm had a rapturous response from the panel of Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan.

When Cowell asked if the two friends had fallen out, Sue said: ‘Of course not, we’re still the best of friends.’ But yesterday she admitted Janine wasn’t talking to her.

‘She’s taken me off her Facebook friends,’ said Sue. ‘I think Janine was upset I didn’t tell her before that I was going back for a second chance.’

Sue told her friend she could not go back to Birmingham for the audition, but then ITV’s researchers offered a chance to audition in London. ‘Instead of seeing her first, and telling her, I had to do it on the phone,’ Sue said. ‘I realised from my other friends she was really hurt.’

Sue and Janine met at the Purcell School, a boarding school specialising in music. They both went on to study for degrees at the Royal College of Music.

I think the whole thing just shows that most people don’t know anything about classical music! The violinist was definitely not as talented as the pianist. It was a shame there was no piano. The piece the vioinist played the second time was mostly backing track and was quite out of tune some of the time. Anyone who is a reasonable standard on the violin can make an electric violin sound amazing, especially with a backing track. It’s probably the first time ever that Simon Cowell has gone down in my estimation!

I agree Kevin as soon as Sue walked on to the stage she just oozed star quality. She is gorgeous, with an incredible, sexy body. Most importantly she is very talented.

Its a shame of her friend isnt happy at what happened, but if shes a true fiend she will be happy for her, and any success she gets.

Sue is a star of the future, no doubt at all. A stunning, beautiful woman. I hope to see much more of her.

    to maryanne:
i play classical music on the piano and i listen to classical music. I loved sue son’s rendition of the vivaldi piece though i don’t feel like i’m qualified to critique it from a purely technical standpoint. From an artistic standpoint, i thought it was outstanding. I don’t think anyone is fully qualified to critique the piece technically unless he/she has played the piece on the violin and knows each note intimately.

It’s a shame that janine didn’t get to play on a real piano because the piece would’ve sounded a lot better if she did. One can’t say though that janine is a better musician basing the video because the piano part of the composition just wasn’t technically difficult. It was actually rather simple. This time i can tell because i can actually play the piano.

  7. Fanboy says:

I don’t know why so many people keep knocking Sue’s violin playing. It may be true that it was not the greatest violin playing, but the fact is, millions of viewers enjoyed listening to it around the world. Is it not the goal of a musician to produce music that can be heard and enjoyed by others? Sue will be much more famous and more adored than the majority of ‘professional’ violinists who do not try out for competitions such as BGT. Instead of bitching about her lack of skill, why don’t you ask yourself why you didn’t try out instead?

  8. Robby says:

I agree to those comments expressing that there is no need of Perfectionism for such a classical piece that Sue played. Its her Aura, and to be honnest, after viewing some Vanessa Mae clips, I like Sue’s entire performance more. Hope she gets far. By the way, even Paul Potts didnt sing it as good as Pavarotti…but who would want to compare Sue with Paganini?
